trouvée: the outing

Hot toddies and Mackintosh squares ~ it's getting to be that time of the year! Found recently on eBay, this photograph is uniscribed and undated. It makes me yearn for a crisp fall outing. . . with a thermos and a tweed jacket. {click image to view larger}

Some things:

* stemming the tide ~ a bit of old Shanghai
* and Cy Twombly at the Louvre

Cheers! Have a good weekend!

This scene makes me think of the disastrous picnic in Austen's "Emma." And Mackintosh squares, of course, conjure up another wonderful book and movie.

I'll take the hats, please.

Mummy's recipe for rolled oat squares would be perfect on such an outing. Now, where's my burled walking stick and stout brogues?

photos like this really make me nostalgic for a different time....why do i fear that with all the technology and such of today, i'd be hard pressed to convince my friends/family to have a little impromptu outdoor picnic like the one these folks are enjoying? maybe i just need to make it sound more appealing. your blog is quickly becoming one of my must-reads! xoxo
