the snow

It sifts from leaden sieves, / It powders all the wood. . .
(Emily Dickinson)

Waking up to a blizzard in the early hours of December 27 (the top image taken at 6:47 am). An extraordinary phenomena of nature to be sure.

Some additions to the winter reading list:

* Ape House, by Sara Gruen
* The Forgotten Garden, by Kate Morton
* and White Heat, by Brenda Wineapple (which I found quite by accident at the Book Thing last fall)

Good night, and happy reading.

I love the little spot of red in the blue, through-the-screen photograph. There's something about a picture of snow that is ineffable - to me, that is.

I stumbled upon your blog this evening. Though I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, my 'home' is Blue Hill, Maine. i loved your photos and the thought of being 'stuck' there in the snow for Christmas makes my heart sing. I love your book choices and your aestetic you put forward. I look forward to following along on your blog.
Best regards,
Pat

As another impending storm approaches, I'm appreciating your beautiful photographs and thinking that maybe I should have my camera ready for morning.

Blue ~ my heart skipped a beat when I saw that little spot of red. It's as if it is saying there's a little bit of warmth in all this cold.

Pat ~ welcome! And thank you for such kind words. It is hard not to be inspired by Blue Hill. Hard not to take a good picture there.

Karena ~ agreed! I hope to stay in and curl up this weekend.

quintessence ~ thank you. I do hope you charged up that camera battery! Stay warm and safe.
