the longest day

Welcome Summer (as of 1:16pm est)! Along with your hazy, lazy days. This was taken from my roof top around 9:30pm last night, just as the sun was giving up the day. I'll be top side again this evening, along with my stitching group. We'll greet the season with dinner and drinks (and maybe, maybe a little stitching).

Some things, just for fun:

* oh, the pleasure, the pain: busks
* and some old-time hotties (quite possibly the funniest thing I have seen in a long time)

Happy Solstice. . . what are you all up to?

I woke up at 04:30 this morning and it was totally light - you could read a book - but very, very quiet: the strangeness of midsummer.

Loved the old-time hotties! For solstice I put out my candles in the front garden. I remember that one of the early moon flights reported they could see solstice bonfires all over Europe! Not so much now, perhaps. But it is my small way to join the tribe of the earth shattering moments of light. And, as I was lighting the candles, I saw my first firefly. Timing is everything!

ps How does that drinking and stitching thing work out?

Emile ~ you are much farther north than we are. I was up at 5:30. Always amazed at the length of the days in June.

hbd ~ what a wonderful sight that must be. . . all the solstice lights. I do miss fireflies, living in the city you don't see them often. As for the drinking and stitching. . . there was quite a bit of the former, and none of the latter.

I saw our first fireflies last night on Cooper's last outing before bedtime! In spite of the forecast, summer arrives when you and the gentleman walk through the door!

Loving the long days. Not enjoying the frizz. It's as thick as pea soup right now.
