beans and things

It is beginning to look a lot like fall at the sunday market: beans, squash, apples. I have been cooking simple meals this week ~ roast chicken with green beans and garlic, quiche and tomato salad. Oh, and there's an acorn squash on the menu for tomorrow.

Honestly, there isn't much to tell you all...the long days in the jury room don't leave time for fun! But, I have a few things up my sleeve for next week. In the mean time, I am hoarding past issues of Gourmet (I am beyond devastated).

But, this little bit of home makes me happy!

Word on the street is that one of the used book vendors at Eastern Market is bringing all his old backstock of Gourmets this weekend. This is why I can never bring myself to throw away my magazines!

I am sure they'll be flying out of the Book Thing!

We've had our first freeze. The streets are littered with leaves and a high of the mid50s for today. My husband says he doesn't want to get too excited for what comes next: me with indoor projects and cooking real food again. When I told him about your 8th jury duty he (an attorney) started laughing. He said there is a real supply and demand thing going on with so many opportunities for grand juries in DC, and so few people to serve after all the "busy" government people get excused. He sends his best wishes to you for your time well served, again and again (repeat six more times). Happy home this weekend.

Jury duty sounds kind of interesting. Good for you! I've never been called up for it.
