trouvée: the capitol

All I will say. . . is that it is a rough day on Capitol Hill. Without getting into politics.

I received an email earlier today from a photographer in New York I work with frequently. He was surprised to hear I was at my desk: "I thought the government was already broken."

Well, not quite. But almost.

Along with some 800,000 other federal workers, I will be furloughed if a budget agreement is not reached by midnight tonight. Please know that while many Americans don't seem to care if the government is shut down, we are disappointed not to be working.

Have a good weekend.

Ahhhh, thanks. Just read a CNN poll that said 58% of Americans polled said that it didn't matter to them. Eeeeeek!

It is the most outrageous situation, and I am angry and sickened by the entire thing. The problems Lies within the Halls of Congress-and the mostly men that rot there-Not the Halls of Art and Culture where people are really working and contributing--And they have the nerve to collect a check-they would be fired if they worked for any public company. I did a post today on the PP debauchery. Personally, I think one of the problems with our social and cultural blogs- is that We do not speak out. What is the point of occupying a place to voice our thoughts if we are afraid of offending a reader or 2. I can't accept that.

As a newly-minted American, I find I do care about the disgusting antics in Congress - the human cost is going to be quite appalling if the House has its way.

Thank you all for being THINKERS. And for saying what you think.

I have been thinking about you and hoping that a compromised can be reached. There are a few more hours left and my fingers are crossed and my heart is heavy with great sadness that our country is where it is today.

Oh Janet, without being too political either (hahaha, my nose just grew an inch by saying that), I think this may be the most appalling thing I've seen in years. The bad behavior coming from a certain side of the aisle in recent years, months and weeks has me completely flabbergasted. The world truly is mad.

And I am so sorry for you and the others who work so hard only to be abused this way.

As for that 58%, none of them seem to be in Blue Hill, where we're all uniformly appalled.

It is infuriating, demoralizing, and revolting. As an American, I am appalled to find my country high-jacked by venal, stupid know-nothings. I curse them for the mayhem they promulgate, and resent them for what they squander.

I am a little late to this party, so I have nothing to add except to say hear, hear! to all of the above. And to note that happily, what we all feared when we went to bed last night did not come to pass.
